How To Direct Organic Traffic To Your Podcast

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin when it comes to marketing and growing your business. You want things to be perfect and on point, but life just doesn’t work out that way.

On a recent episode of Should I Start a Podcast, I had the opportunity to speak with ‘Mumpreneur,’ Tracy Harris. She’s an educational leader and the host of the Mums With Hustle podcast – a platform where she guides entrepreneurial mothers in starting and growing their businesses using social media.

Perfect Is Not Perfect

Tracy labelled herself, “Miss Perfect” at the tender age of 12. She loved school, was a grade A student and knew how to navigate the school system to be a high achiever. But later in life, motherhood happened along with the growth of her own business.  It was during this journey it hit her – perfection is deathly boring, and has no place in business.

As an entrepreneur you often need to be quick thinking, and malleable to the tasks that are thrown your way. I personally believe an entrepreneur is “someone who jumps off the cliff and builds the plane on the way down,” and Tracy seems to agree.

There’s also the notorious behaviour of procrastination. Tracy sees procrastinating as one of the biggest forms of fear entrepreneurs face today. “Just get out a play a bit more,” she explains, don’t wait to instigate things.

Entrepreneurship is a learning curve, and taking an organic approach could lead you into new exciting directions. Don’t sit there twiddling your thumbs – hit “go” and avoid striving for perfection.

Instagram As An Organic Traffic Generator

Which comes first, the podcast or the community? Chicken or the egg? It’s a toughie. Maybe Tracy has the answer?  Mums with Hustle podcast was just one of many pieces to Tracy’s business puzzle, and certainly wasn’t the initial landing spot for her audience.

Instagram is where she started to connect with a new audience. She ensures that there’s a handy link in her bio that directs new prospects towards the podcast, making it quick and easy for them to become a fan.

Tracy explains that when they stumble across the podcast, there is just such a wealth of information that they feel so nurtured and loved, they very quickly become lasting MWH advocates. It’s organic traffic with lifelong reward.

Get Advice From Your Audience

One of the most surprising and uplifting things that Tracy has found during her podcasting venture was the hunger for knowledge and gracious openness of her audience. She admits that her community have played a crucial role in how she conducts her business, as well as the content she creates. From the topics she covers in her podcasts and ecourses, to the content she’s posting on Instagram, it’s a community based effort.

Starting with a welcome message email sequence, she opens things up for a potential dialogue and encourages her new followers to give feedback and advice.  This is a great method, particularly at the development stages of a business.

The takeaway to all this is don’t strive for perfection, it will just slow down your progression. Drive organic traffic towards your podcasts using social media and be sure to interact with your audience once they’re there.
