The trouble about being an entrepreneur today is that it seems to be the in-thing, the new cool designation on the block. Most people identify with being one, and imagine that they can one day quit their job and do whatever it is they want to do. The problem with that is 2 fold. One, no entrepreneur has a easy life. Being an entrepreneur is the best life ever, but it isn’t a comfortable one. And two, everyone has a tainted view of what an entrepreneurs’ life is supposed to look like.
The daily workload of an entrepreneur
Some people imagine that it is sipping margaritas on the beach, with a laptop in hand ready to do some work. The other view is that an entrepreneur wears a suit and attends these important meetings. They are seen in the business lounge at the airport, looking and feeling important. These are both very misleading and they have very different intentions. The problem with these views are that the main important responsibility of being an entrepreneurs is not being addressed. The problem with these views is that it isn’t about you. Nothing is about you.
Your job as an entrepreneur
As an entrepreneur, you have to be responsible of making the world a better place. You have to solve meaningful problems. If you aren’t doing that, then you are wasting a gift. A gift that very few people on the planet are bestowed with. The gift of freedom. And when you realise that if you get to a point of achieving entrepreneur status, then you are one of the 1% of the population. This means that you have the ability to make massive changes and you could dedicate your life to creating awareness around topics that are bigger than yourself, your business and your immediate needs.
What is your bigger play?
There is always something bigger that needs attention. I can think of the zoos around the planet that cage animals for people’s pleasure. There is a problem with poaching, there is a problem with child obesity, with human hunger. There are issues with sex trafficking and how there still is a market for something like that. There are issues that need our attention. How many of us know someone that is depressed enough that they take their own life? Or, know someone who has struggled with keeping a secret their whole lives of being abused by a loved one.
There are so many different things that are bigger than us. And I believe that we as entrepreneurs have the responsibility to bring a light to some of these. Maybe this is my journey. Maybe this is something that I feel haven’t done enough of, and I am writing here, to encourage you to join me and countless others who fight the good fight. To join the people that deal with thoughts and battles in our heads of the fairness or unfairness of certain situations. On how are these kinds of issues still there on this planet and how maybe, just a little attention can create a massive change.
What do you feel passionately about? And, how can I help you make a difference?
