224. How Dan Martell Overcame Failure to Build 3 Multi-Million Dollar Startups

On today’s episode of the Bond Appetit podcast, I’m speaking with an entrepreneur and empire builder who completely embraces the philosophy of taking failures in your stride, and finding a way to push forward through any adversity. His name is Dan Martell, and he’s the founder of Clarity and Flowtown, and has also been named as Canada’s top angel investor in 2012.

Dan has completed over 33 investments with companies like Udemy, Intercom and Unbounce. Each of Dan’s startups has gone on to be a multi-million dollar company, and he’s sold to tens of thousands of customers in his time as an entrepreneur. In our conversation, he shares his dedicated and focused approach with me, and tells me all about how and why he embraces every part of who he is, failures and all.

We get into all of this, too:

  • How balance wasn’t always something that Dan had, and how he found it
  • Why following your gut can make your ideas grow into something truly remarkable
  • How getting into a lot of trouble (think high speed chases, guns, drugs and jail) as a teenager made Dan who he is today
  • Why entrepreneurship has been Dan’s ultimate self-improvement course
  • The little moments in your day that give you a push forward when you need it the most
  • The most powerful, unique and creative thing you can do
  • The reason it took Dan 15 years to tell people publicly how he became a success
  • The truth behind trial periods and finding yourself
