152. I liked Glen Carlson so much I spent 40 weeks with him

The eternal problem for entrepreneurs…

How many times have we heard the problem with entrepreneurs is – despite being fantastic at their craft – they’re terrible at selling themselves?

…and the answer

The man with the answer to that problem is Glen Carlson, and, along with a growing army of ecstatic entrepreneurs with whom he’s shared it, he’s starting a revolution.

Entrepreneurs.  Glen Carlson knows them.  Glen knows their commitment and expertise, and wants to connect to what is most important to them.

The award winning entrepreneur, speaker and co-founder of the Key Person of Influence programme loves what entrepreneurs are up to in the world and is massively committed to empowering them to succeed.  Glen believes helping entrepreneurs connect with and build a flourishing enterprise around what is meaningful to them ultimately gives value to the world, and with a mission to ‘…help our people become more visible, valuable and connected doing the things they love’, you can see why his job juices him up!

Offices in four countries.  Ranked as one of the top ten fastest growing companies in Australia in less than four years.  Co-founding KPI and their acclaimed business branding programme with Daniel Priestley – the successful entrepreneur, international speaker and best-selling author of Key Person of Influence and Entrepreneur Revolution – and with The Huffington Post calling them ‘The world’s leading personal brand accelerator’, Glen and Daniel are living, breathing (not to mention smiling) examples of how their five-pronged approach works in today’s dynamic global marketplace.

I have to admit this interview is close to my heart; Glen is the man who threw a tank of gasoline on my own entrepreneurial fire and then nurtured the flame with me during my 40 weeks of the KPI Growth Accelerator programme.  It’s safe to say that doing the course was the single most important business decision I’ve ever made, and I’m grateful that in this podcast I get to acknowledge its impact on my life – and share Glen with you.

Finding your Why

Expect to find yourself looking within and asking big questions when Glen starts to break down the answer to that little selling problem of ours.  Quickly bring back your gaze when he gets to the foundational problem that all entrepreneurs face – and shares his amazingly simple but outstandingly successful strategy to overcome it!

In our conversation we get an insight into why influence is so important for stepping up out of the struggle zone into owning a great business.  Get ready to connect to what you love to do as Glen shares how his specialised process can engineer commercial value out of your talents.

If you’re not already, you’ll be taking notes when Glen explains why finding your why is paramount and how Steve Jobs showed him how to reveal the why in us all.  I was so inspired by Glen’s honest account of his challenges and triumphs on his journey to finding his purpose, and how that led to a vision:  to help business owners strike the right balance between navel gazing and Silicon Valley.

As a man committed to making the world a better place, Glen’s idea of job satisfaction is no doubt why he’s up with the best in the business; here he shares with us his perspectives on winning awards, what lights him up, his biggest challenge as well as his where he’s putting his abundant energy next.

The Entrepreneur Revolution has begun

Although a lot of bad things have happened in the name of The Entrepreneur, the world has changed:  we’re in the midst of an Entrepreneur Revolution.

Glen’s endless passion and energy for the subject is obvious as he explains how there has never been a better time in history to fulfil on our potential to do something that is meaningful, in a way that serves the world.  Glen liberates us as he throws out archaic ideas of what it means to be an entrepreneur and describes how he sees entrepreneurship as being a character trait.

Much more than just an idealist, Glen gets practical too.  In our chat we break down the barriers to being your own boss and discover why it has never been easier to take the risk to do what you love.  Glen tells us how to access creativity and why he doesn’t believe you when you say ‘I’m not creative’.  The Revolution is our chance to have a go and Glen standing ready to equip us with the tools and tech we need to succeed.

On eating to live and listening to his body

There were so many questions I wanted to ask Glen about entrepreneurship, and he wanted to talk about food!  I am glad I got to ask about the nutrition and exercise habits of a man so committed to professional peak performance, and wasn’t surprised that his health and business philosophies overlap.  I will never forget his simple yet powerful analogy for why we need to rethink how we spend our precious time off.

As a personal chef for busy people, I love it when my guests share their timesaving and nutritious meal ideas, and you’ll be delighted at how Glen’s strategies are so adaptable.

Glen shares his own health transformation with us, including how he went from trying to achieve health with pills to just being healthy.  Get Glen’s views on Paleo, giving up coffee, earning injuries and saying yes to beer and pizza, and his vivid description of his fondest food memory will have you reaching for your fork.  Not to mention that I learn something new hearing Glen explain whom he’d love to share a meal with.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life…

My life changed forever after meeting Glen Carlson.  My excitement at interviewing him was not only to share his entrepreneurial wisdom, but also to get a glimpse of the man behind the awards and accolades, the story behind the strategies and presentations.
