108. Eating for pregnancy, the misconeptions of nutrition and appetite hormones with Melanie McGrice

Melanie knew almost her whole life what she wanted to do. Sitting with her Grandmother at the age of 14, she decided she would be a nutritionist and help others in any way that she could. Since then she has persistently worked towards this life goal. Melanie earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, and quickly followed this with an Honours and Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics. After her education she spend her first 10 years of her career working in hospitals and consulting in private practice honing her knowledge and skills.

One of Melanie’s key passions is nutrition during the early years of a child’s life, starting during pregnancy. Melanie knew the fact that most women struggle with their weight during and after pregnancy. Hormone fluctuations, increased appetite and fatigue are just some of the reasons that women struggle to stay within a healthy range. As a result, 74 per cent of women gain more weight than scientifically recommended. This then leads women to struggle with the even larger  issue of trying to lose that additional weight after having their babies.
