59.Volume: Noel Whittaker: Wealth

What is wealth? Is it simply having a lot of money? Or is it much deeper than that?

This is The Psychology of Entrepreneurship,

I’m Ronsley Vaz. This uniquely produced audio docuseries follows me, and my guests from all walks of life. We examine world events and break down the reactions and responses to them from business-minded people. Then, together we go inside and unravel the inner workings of the mind of entrepreneurs, artists, athletes, and academics. Our goal is to answer the question, “What is the psychology of our decisions?”.

If you are an entrepreneur or would like to explore the entrepreneurial mindset, this is the podcast for you.

Noel Whittaker has been teaching people how to handle their money for decades.

Noel is considered one of the world’s foremost authorities on personal finance. You could say he wrote the book on it. Or 24 books on it, to be exact. Noel always had the entrepreneurial bug. He remembers finding ways to make his own money as a kid, and even had his own honey brand at 16. After years of working in various sectors, Noel decided he knew a thing or two about money, and he wanted to share it with the world.

Today, Noel is one of Australia’s most well-known authors. His first book, Making Money Made Simple was named one of “The Most Influential Books of the Twentieth Century”. He reaches over 7 million readers each week with his newspaper columns. Currently, Noel is an Adjunct Professor and Executive-in-Residence with the Queensland University of Technology. Oh, and he’s also a committee member advising the Australian Securities and Investment Commission.  So you could say Noel knows a thing or two about personal finance.

In this volume, Noel breaks down his definition of wealth, which may surprise you. He also explains why being “broke” isn’t necessarily a direct cause of not making enough money. This man has got some stories. And we use them to parallel the madness the world is seeing right now financially, as a collective whole. I explore joblessness due to the pandemic, and how Australia is grappling with a record number of unemployed citizens.

This isn’t a volume about money, really. It’s about the connection, or lack thereof, of income and wealth. Entrepreneurs spend their lives trying to build wealth, or so they think. Let’s explore, shall we?

Other topics in this volume:Quote: There's no connection between income and wealth.
  • The new financial state of the world
  • Unemployment and what it means for our future
  • The pitfalls of spending money
  • Why Noel advises writing your chapter titles before the book, so to speak
  • Happiness and Money
