Omar Zenhom: Disrupting Business Education and Thriving as an Entrepreneur

As the co-founder of The $100 MBA and Webinar Ninjas, Omar Zenhom is the other half of the Omar & Nicole dynamic duo. Omar is famous for his energy, and we can’t wait for his return to WAP in 2018!

If you don’t already know of Omar’s story, here’s a brief bit of background on him. Omar is an ex-educator and university manager-turned-entrepreneur. He went to the Wharton school of business before dropping out (in frustration) to do his own thing. His mission: revolutionize business education and make it more accessible for people.

He’s the host of the “iTunes Best of 2014 podcast”, The $100 MBA Show. The $100 MBA Show consists of over 650 lessons and is consumed by around 50,000 daily listeners. His audience extends well into the millions. Omar is also the co-founder of WebinarNinja, an all-inclusive, easy-to-use webinar platform that removes the headaches and streamlines the webinar creation process.

Omar’s a top class podcaster who’s built a huge audience and a few thriving businesses. He’s another one of those people who (at least from the outside) appear to have the Midas touch. This isn’t exactly the truth, however. Omar has had plenty of failures and hit more than a few roadblocks in the past. But his tenacity, smarts, and dedication to mastering whatever it is he was doing are what’s gotten him through the dip.

In past talks, Omar has stressed the importance of treating podcasting and interviewing like a craft. He’s emphasized the use of tone, pauses, and timing in producing great content. In other words, he’s fastidious about the details, and this (among other reasons) is why he’s such a great person to listen to.

Omar is a strong proponent of the idea that communication is the #1 skill every professional should invest in improving. When you stop and think about it, it’s hard to argue. Your products, services or artwork might be top notch, but if you struggle to communicate this to others, you’re going to have a problem.

Omar was recently interviewed in Forbes, and he ended the piece by offering three critical pieces of career advice.

These are:

  1. Spend time to find your calling, but achieve this by doing, not by standing on the sidelines speculating.
  2. Read biographies. Biographies give you perspective. They show you how hard a particular path in life really is and how long it takes to get any traction.
  3. Never lose sight of profitability. Debt is your worst enemy and you should avoid it at all costs.

The bottom line to all of this is that Omar’s a guy who’s been in the entrepreneurial foxhole and he’s got a plethora of knowledge to share. He’s made it his business to become a master at engagingly communicating key lessons. Regardless of where you’re at with your business or dreams, Omar undoubtedly has some helpful perspectives.
