Kevin Curry began his journey with a simple Facebook photo tag. We’ve all been there when a friend tags us in an unflattering Facebook photo, but for Kevin this moment was life changing. When he saw the photo of himself on his friend’s Facebook page his initial reaction was a mixture of denial, surprise and a little shame for letting himself go as much as he had.  Kevin was overweight and felt sluggish, in addition his physician told recently told him that his blood pressure was steadily rising. This is when he decided to make a change, and he first did what most people try to do— he started exercising to try to “out train” his poor diet.

He quickly learned there was not enough cardio or weights in the world that could get this fat off my back. Through his own struggles and tribulation he came to the  realization that if I was going to accomplish his fitness goals, it would have to be through a steady, healthy diet, complemented by hard work in the gym, not the other way around.

Two years later after his epiphany moment, Kevin started a Tumblr blog called “FitMenCook” to share his meals online in order to build a community around healthy food ideas, as well as to keep himself accountable and motivated.

Kevin’s message is simple: “Our bodies are built in the kitchen, Sculpted in the gym.”

“Fit Men Cook is about all of us, both men and women. It’s taking our individual success stories and fitness and nutrition philosophies and sharing those ideas with the each other to grow and improve together. It’s all about everyday people—no matter the fitness level or athletic ability—aiming to live the best life possible through fitness and healthy eating. Hard work and remaining active are vital; but in the end, it all comes down to diet.” -Kevin Curry

Kevin Curry’s fondest food memories

Watching my grandmother cook, especially my grandmother’s fried chicken. My mother would always make Gumbo, especially around the holidays. Found memories also include my family’s delicious Dixie Sweet Potatoes every Thanksgiving and Sunday dinners with my family.

Know more about Kevin Curry

Who would you love to have dinner with and where?

Chef Gordon Ramsay, because I am a huge fan, but also because he is a serial entrepreneur as well.  My second choice would be Barack Obama because of his personal journey not because of his position of power.

Last meal on the planet?

My family’s Dixie Sweet Potatoes, Ceviche and flank steak. For dessert my family’s Dixie Sweet Potatoes and nice chocolate cake.
